Our Pastor

I am an imperfect, flawed human being who is learning to glory in his weakness. While my instinct is to hide weakness, God’s word says that the truth will set you free. The honest reality is that I am weak, and there is freedom in accepting this truth. But even more, there is freedom knowing that I was created to find my strength in the person and work of Jesus Christ. And so this is how I aim to be the pastor of Ethos Communion Church; one who lays bear my weakness so that the glory of Jesus Christ shines in and through me for the good of others.

I’ve been a pastor in the Los Angeles area for the past 18 years, and in 2024 I felt called to plant Ethos Communion Church. I have to admit that church planting is totally new to me and I often feel like I don’t know what I’m doing or where I’m heading. In this way, I feel this season of my life is like the biblical character Abraham. When the Lord called him, he didn’t tell him where he was going, he just told him to get going. Abraham listened and obeyed, trusting that the Lord would provide everything else. So I’m planting this church trusting that the Lord will bring the people, resources, and direction in order that we can proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ and bring rest to weary souls.

I have the honor and joy of being married to my beautiful wife Soojin since 2005 with whom we have three wonderful teenage children. I also have the privilege of being surrounded by the best team of church members I could ever start a church with.
